WNC Sierra Club: An Introduction to the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy
September 6 @ 7:00 pm
Did you know that 70% of the land you enjoy viewing from the Blue Ridge Parkway is privately owned? Do you realize that means it could be logged or developed?
Join the WNC Sierra Club for a presentation on Protecting Our Beautiful Views of WNC: An Introduction to Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy on Wednesday, September 6th at 7 pm, at the UNCA Reuter Center and on Zoom.
Kyle Shute, Land Protection Associate for the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy, will talk about conservation strategies and the organization’s history of preserving Western North Carolina lands, including around the Blue Ridge Parkway. He will be joined by former state Rep. John Ager, who will discuss the importance of our local Land Conservation Advisory Board and his experience in placing the historic Hickory Nut Gap Farm into a conservation easement.
Kyle joined SAHC in 2022 after working with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. He holds a BS in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Biology from the University of Maine and an MS in Wildlife Biology from Clemson University. Kyle manages prospective land conservation projects for SAHC and works on wildlife habitat conservation topics. Pre-register here for the Zoom program or join the meeting from WNCSierraClub.org.
