The French Broad: Past, Present and Future
June 7 @ 7:00 pm
Join the WNC Sierra Club for a presentation of the The French Broad: Past, Present and Future, on Wednesday, June 7th, at 7 pm, either in-person at the OLLI/Reuter Center at UNC-Asheville, Room 102, or on Zoom.
RiverLink’s Executive Director, Lisa Raleigh, and Water Resources Manager, Renee Fortner, will discuss the long struggle to renew the French Broad River and what’s needed to protect its future.
For 35 years, RiverLink has worked to transform the French Broad River and its corridor through Asheville and beyond. Founder Karen Cragnolin championed the neglected, polluted and industrialized river and pursued her vision of the river as a community resource and economic engine for Asheville and the region. The work continues under new leadership as the community celebrates the success of our riverfront with its arts district, expansive greenways and parks, but with the clear knowledge that the work is not done. The French Broad’s water quality was recently classified as impaired, primarily from bacterial contamination.
