Medicaid Expansion Town Hall in Waynesville
February 11 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
On Tuesday evening, the town of Waynesville will discuss whether to formally pass a resolution in support of Med Expansion. This is a public hearing, and everyone in the area is encouraged to come out to show support for expanding Medicaid in North Carolina. Since free federal funds for expanding Medicaid first became available to states in 2013 under the Affordable Care Act, the NC Legislature has refused to accept this critical program that would cover over 500,000 North Carolinians. Under the current system, no adult in North Carolina who is not certified disabled and who does not have dependent children qualifies for Medicaid, no matter how low their income. This leaves over half a million people in the coverage gap – unable to qualify for Medicaid yet unable to afford subsidies on the ACA marketplace. Gov. Cooper has fought hard for Medicaid Expansion, as have numerous organizations across the state — including Indivisible AVL — but the Republican-led legislature has refused to enact this important legislation.
