Vote to Make the Beloved Community: Souls to the Polls
October 18 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
A nonpartisan event to get out the vote, with music and food. With the vision of creating in Asheville what Dr King called the Beloved community.
Come and hang out, enjoy the music and food, and share stories with us. Or come and simply vote! Vans with signs will drive around the neighborhood inviting people to come, and providing rides to the event and to the polls at Dr Wesley Grant Southside Center, 285 Livingston Street. Early voting starts on October 15, and on Sunday the 18th will be open from 10 am to 3 pm.
We will also be promoting unique signs about voting for a selfie to post on their social media, similar to what was done in downtown Asheville recently.
Sponsored by The NC Poor People Campaign, and Elder Vigil Group in Support of Black Lives Matter. For more information Contact Reverend LC Ray, 828-776-1721, or Steven Norris 828-777-7816.
Dr King’s description of the Beloved Community:
But the end is reconciliation; the end is redemption; the end is the creation of the beloved community. It is this type of spirit and this type of love that can transform opposers into friends. The type of love that I stress here is not eros, a sort of esthetic or romantic love; not philia, a sort of reciprocal love between personal friends; but it is agape which is understanding goodwill for all men. It is an overflowing love which seeks nothing in return. It is the love of God working in the lives of men. This is the love that may well be the salvation of our civilization.
