Tourism Taxes for Affordable Housing
September 5 @ 4:45 pm
The “Tourism Taxes for Affordable Housing” campaign is all about fighting to have the county put tax money that it already collects towards more housing for working people. Tax money that is presently going to the tourism industry, not necessary services like schools.
Since March, Asheville DSA, Asheville Food and Beverage United, Asheville For All, and Buncombe Decides have been building wide, grassroots support to get the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority (BCTDA) to commit to funding the construction of such housing, and to increase worker representation on its decision-making bodies. The BCTDA supports tourism, and the tourism industry is supported by service workers—many of whom struggle to find places to live in Asheville.
Join Asheville DSA, Asheville Food and Beverage United, Asheville For All and Buncombe Decides at the Buncombe County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, September 5th, at 4:45 pm, where they will present the results of their spring campaign to the commissioners and deliver their public comment.
RSVP here and let them know you’re coming.
