New Great Smoky Mountains National Park Programs

February 4, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Sierra Club of Western North Carolina (WENOCA Group) will present two innovative new programs, Hikes for Healing and the African American Experience in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, through Zoom, on Thursday, February 4th at 7 pm.

Stephanie Kyriazis, Deputy Chief of Resource Education, is the facilitator of Hikes for Healing, a series of hikes initiated by Superintendent Cassius Cash following the killing of George Floyd. The hikes have the goal of melding the restorative power of nature and the healing power of conversation.

Antoine Fletcher is Science Communicator for the Park and its Appalachian Highlands Science Learning Center at Purchase Knob. He will speak about the Park’s African American Experience Project, which seeks to uncover and share the history of the Black experience in the Smokies area over time.

Please register in advance. A return email will provide a link to join the Zoom webinar.
