March On For Voting Rights
August 28, 2021
August 28 is the 58th anniversary of the original 1963 March on Washington, when a diverse coalition of activists marched to secure the passage of the historic Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act. Today, with over 400 voter suppression bills being proposed, the country is facing the same urgency to rise up and demand Congressional action to protect our right to vote.
Since January, 48 states have introduced bills that amount to shameful, outright voter suppression, and many have already become law. Racist, anti-democratic voter suppression laws amount to rigging the game. But in America, elections are not a game—lives depend on their outcomes.
The March On for Voting Rights is a nonviolent, nonpartisan mass mobilization to demand that elected officials protect democracy, denounce voter suppression and ensure fair, easy access to the vote for all through the passage of comprehensive federal legislation.
That’s why, on August 28th, there will be a march on Washington, Atlanta, Miami, Houston, Phoenix and cities across America. 146 partners have joined in nationwide demonstrations to demand federal voting rights legislation.
