Lunch & Learn: African-American History Series

This free monthly lecture series on  African-American History in Buncombe County features a local expert on a specific topic on the last Tuesday during June, July, August and September. The final presentation in this four-part series features Dr. Sharon West on access and availability of health care for African Americans in Buncombe County.

Previous speakers included (June 27) Marcell Proctor on the historical effects of redlining and gentrification on the African Amerian Community in Buncombe County; (July 25) Dr. Darin Waters on the history of African American education in Asheville and WNC; and (August 23) County Commissioner Al Whitesides on the wage gap and historical wealth disparities in the African American Community.

The series is hosted by the Buncombe County Community Engagement Team.
