City of Asheville’s Information Sharing and Truth Telling Speaker Series

The Information Sharing and Truth Telling Speaker Series is the first phase of the City of Asheville’s process to deliver community reparations for Black Asheville. Please join this final event in the series on June 17th, from 6 to 8 pm, in the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, 87 Haywood Street, Asheville. The series will include local and national speakers who will share information about past policies, present trends and disparities, and future initiatives. The community will have opportunities to participate.

Doors open at 5 pm. Local Resiliency Trainers, MC Ellis and Michael Hayes will lead a resiliency talk from 5:40 – 5:55 pm. There will also be a video booth setup before and after the event to offer another option for people to have their voices heard.

Panelists will be: Rinku Sen, Executive Director of the Narrative Initiative, Dr. Dwight Mullen, Professor Emeriti, UNCA, Jorge Redmond, Assistant District Attorney, Buncombe County, Dr. Marcus Harvey, Associate Professor of Religious Studies, UNCA. The moderator will be Dr. Darin WatersExecutive Director of the UNC Asheville Office of Community Engagement, an Associate Professor of History, and as the Co-Host of the Waters and Harvey Radio Show and Podcast.
