2023 Juneteenth Celebration
June 12 - June 18
“Remembering, Honoring, and Celebrating Juneteenth”
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Asheville and Buncombe County, in partnership with the City of Asheville, has planned a week-long celebration of Juneteenth for the community. The week of events culminates with the Juneteenth Festival Celebration in Pack Square Park on Saturday, June 17 and Sunday, June 18. The full list of Juneteenth events can be found on the Association’s website.
Saturday, June 17th, Tentative Events, Pack Square Park, 11 am–9 pm:
- Opening Address and Recognition of Sponsors: Dr. Oralene Simmons
- Opening Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing”
- Greetings from the City and the County, and Juneteenth Proclamations
- Juneteenth Facts and History: Mr. Jonathan McCoy
