My Message to ‘My’ Congressman

I received U.S. Rep. Chuck Edwards’ ‘newsletter’ today. As a constituent, I was both disgusted and incensed by it. The Congressman, a staunch support of Donald Trump, is a member of the majority party in the House of Representatives. The same majority that controls the presidency and the U.S. Senate. Yet in the very first paragraph, Edwards states the ‘the Democrats’ refused to fund SNAP, a lapse that will leave 42 million Americans without food. This is a flat-out lie. The Congressman and his Republican majority colleagues could and should fund this essential food assistance program right now if they so choose. Instead, this tone-deaf ultra-rich representative has the gall to point the constituents he’s supposed to be serving to third-party resources—nonprofits that are struggling right now to pick up the slack left by this administration’s callous disregard for the very people they purport to serve. My message to ‘my’ Congressman? Stop the charade and the false-blaming of others for a situation you fully own, get back to Washington instead of ducking responsibility, and do your job.
