Emergency Protest in Defense of Mueller Investigation on Nov. 8 at Vance Monument in Asheville
WHAT: “Nobody Is Above the Law” Protest Defending Mueller Investigation
WHO: Indivisible Asheville/WNC
WHERE: Pack Square, Vance Monument
WHEN: Nov. 8, 5:00 P.M.
HASHTAG: #NotAboveTheLaw
Emergency protests are planned across the country on Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. in response to President Trump’s decision to appoint Matt Whitaker as acting Attorney General. Whitaker is a partisan loyalist who has published op-eds slamming Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, and the Justice Department says acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker will immediately take over supervising special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation from Rod Rosenstein, the embattled deputy attorney general.
This appointment undermines the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible collusion by the Trump campaign.
More than 1,400 people have signed up to attend this event in Asheville, which is one of over 900 simultaneous events across the country.
Leaders are calling on Congress to respond quickly and forcefully to this clear obstruction of justice.
“Richard Burr, Thom Tillis and their colleagues must put country before party and act swiftly and forcefully against this blatant abuse of power by President Trump,” said Cindy McGrayne of Indivisible Asheville/WNC. “This is a blatant attempt to undermine the Russia investigation, and is part of a long and disturbing series of actions undertaken by the Trump Administration to interfere with any attempt to investigate this Russian attack on our democracy and possible collusion by the Trump campaign itself.”
