Indivisible Asheville/WNC Endorses Cheri Beasley for U.S. Senate

The Indivisible AVL Board of Directors has issued the following statement of support for U.S. Senate candidate Cheri Beasley:

“Cheri Beasley will do an excellent job representing our state in the U.S. Senate. She has been a public defender, a judge, and, in 2019, became the first African American woman to serve as Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court.

“She recognizes that fair access to voting, and our democracy, are under attack, and she’s committed to upholding the rule of law and to protecting the right to vote.

“Unlike her opponent, Beasley recognizes that our rural communities have not been getting the support they need. Western North Carolina is predominantly rural, and over three-fourths of our state’s 100 counties overall are classified as rural, so Beasley’s commitment to supporting policies such as affordable broadband will increase economic opportunities for millions of North Carolinians.

“Beasley has also pledged to take action to reform our criminal justice system, to ensure equal protection under the law, to protect civil liberties and to strengthen public safety.

“On these and many other issues, Cheri Beasley stands ready to work diligently and effectively on behalf of all North Carolinians.

“We are grateful to Ms. Beasley for the work she has already done for the people of North Carolina, and we endorse her candidacy for the office of U.S. Senate whole-heartedly.”
