Position Statement on Gaza
The Indivisible Asheville/WNC Board of Directors has issued the following statement:
As an organization committed to human dignity, justice, and peace, we cannot remain silent in the face of the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Nor can we condone the attacks by Hamas on October 7, 2023. The large-scale loss of life, displacement of families, and destruction of essential infrastructure are profound violations of human rights and international law.
We stand firmly against these atrocities and join the global call for an immediate end to the violence. Our mission compels us to fight white supremacy in all its forms, including antisemitism and anti-Arab/Palestinian racism.
While this issue is not a core focus of our organizing, it greatly affects our community and our work. Our ability to organize for local and statewide justice issues is impacted by U.S. politics and indiscriminate military support of Israel, including the administration’s efforts to discredit progressive leaders of color, endorse police brutality, and repress dissenting voices.
Our purpose is to advocate for the protection of all people, for the pursuit of justice, and for the building of a future rooted in peace and equity. We urge world leaders, institutions, and communities everywhere to act with urgency to protect the innocent and uphold the rights and dignity of every person, in Gaza and beyond.
