DJT & Co wants MAGA to be very, very afraid of liberals winning midterm elections
Did you know we’re communists, left-wing terrorists deformed by hatred and bent on destroying the US government?
You know about ICE, about agents shooting people who have every right to be here. You know about the crazy, on-again, off-again war with Iran and rising gas-and-everything-else prices. But there’s a lot more sneaking by under the radar. If this administration is going to start labeling and demonizing the political opposition, aka us, then it’s time to get out OUR words and tell you what they’re doing.
47’s pushing the “rigged election” narrative while “othering” the opposition
Last Thursday President Trump took to the airwaves and gave a speech aimed directly at undermining confidence in our elections. He described caches of declassified documents, supposedly suppressed by the Biden administration since 2020, that prove China tried to interfere in the presidential election that year, that our voting systems are riddled with vulnerability to hacking and manipulation, and that our voter rolls contain hundreds of thousands of non-citizens and dead people who could vote illegally.
None of these things is true:
- The intelligence services did detect Chinese information gathering during the 2020 election and others, but not actual hacking and interference. (It has been shown that Russia tried to influence the 2016 election in Trump’s favor. [PBS])
- No strong evidence for the voter rolls with non-citizens has been produced. And being on voter rolls doesn’t mean people will be able to vote; in most places they must show credentials to do so.
- One of the things that ensures the integrity of US elections is that they are run by the states and not the federal government — a hacker must get in to more than 50 different systems. (CNN)
- Both the right-leaning Heritage Foundation and left-leaning Brennan Center for Justice have found that the instance of fraudulent voting is negligible.
What is true is that the President wants Americans to believe the midterm elections might be rigged. That the outcomes — which are not looking good for Republicans right now — may be suspect.
Not (gasp) communists!
Trump has also been calling up the ghost of the Red Scare, labeling Democrats “communist” at July 4th celebrations at Mt. Rushmore and the National Mall. (AOL)
But it was henchman Stephen Miller who went nuclear with the name calling on Thursday, addressing European intelligence experts at Secretary Rubio’s “Ministerial on the Resurgence of Political Terrorism.” The focus was all on left-wing terrorism, not the January 6 variety, which puzzled many of the guests. In Miller’s view, leftists don’t believe in freedom, civil rights or any ordered notion of justice.
“Not one looks normal,” Miller said. “They’re all deformed in some way… Their outer appearance becomes a manifestation of their inner hatred.” (Opening Remarks)
