‘Day of Outrage’ event held to put spotlight on recent NC legislation impacting abortion, education, voting

Abortion is one of several topics of concern for the WNC People’s Power Coalition, and on Saturday, July 1, the coalition held a public assembly for a “Day of Outrage” at Pack Square.

It was part of an effort to call attention to the General Assembly’s recent legislation involving voting and reproductive rights, education, the environment and more.

Organizers of Saturday’s event said making the public aware of these bills — and their impacts — is crucial for democracy.

“It’s time for us to come together across all our areas of interest and say, ‘This is not right, this is not good, and we the people demand that our rights to thrive in our community be respected,’ ” said Rev. Claudia Jimenez, with Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Asheville.

This event was also held in 12 other cities across North Carolina, in solidarity with nonprofits and community organizations.
