We the People, FOR the People

On Tuesday, June 22, 2021, North Carolina Senators Thom Tillis and Richard Burr voted AGAINST the critical voting rights and democracy reform legislation known as the For The People Act (Senate bill S.1), in lock-step with every other Senate Republican.

This comes at a time when hundreds of voter suppression bills have been railroaded through state legislatures, in a blatant effort to restrict voting rights and even install partisans to oversee elections. The For The People Act would guarantee protections at the federal level for VOTING RIGHTS, ELECTIONS, and ETHICS. The bill would:

  • Protect voting rights
  • End gerrymandering
  • Get dark money out of politics
  • Strengthen election security
  • End corruption in Washington

And Richard Burr and Thom Tillis shot it down.

What’s Next?
Along with thousands of democracy-loving patriots across the country, we’re fighting harder than ever. During the June 28-July 10 Congressional recess, groups all over the country are joining in a Deadline for Democracy campaign, to call attention to the urgency of passing these critical reforms.

Join Us Friday
On Friday, July 2nd, at 5:30 pm, we will gather in front of Sen. Tillis’s WNC office in Hendersonville, to honor the founding principles of our democracy and to hold up the voting rights and democracy reforms that he is throwing in the trash. The protections in the For The People Act are widely popular across the political spectrum. So join us to show Sen. Tillis what his opposition to these protections mean — to you, to other North Carolinians, and to all Americans.

Please plan to attend. And please share the event with your contacts and other groups: https://indivisibleavl.org/event/deadline-for-democracy-pass-the-for-the-people-act/

We must send a strong message to our senators: Democracy is not a partisan issue.
