Save Us from the SAVE Act

UPDATE 7/14/2026: 

The SAVE America Act, an extreme anti-voting bill, PASSED the House of Representatives – with every Republican voting for it, including Chuck Edwards.

The legislation now goes to the Senate.

Last year it failed in the Senate, only because there was so much public resistance. This year Sen. Thom Tillis said he would stall the SAVE America Act if it came to the Senate. (WLOS)

Last year Congress tried to pass the SAVE Act, a deeply unpopular anti-voter bill that could have blocked millions of eligible voters from voting.

Now Republicans in Congress have revived this with a new and even more restrictive version – called the SAVE America Act. It amends the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 by introducing a requirement for individuals to provide proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections.

Registration and voting attempts by noncitizens are routinely investigated and prosecuted by the appropriate authorities. There is no evidence that attempts at voting by noncitizens have ever been significant enough to impact any election’s outcome.

The bill:

  • Eliminates online voter registration in 42 states
  • Threatens volunteer election workers with criminal charges if they make a mistake
  • Creates a national database of voters’ personal information….controlled by Trump
  • Requires you to produce a birth certificate or passport in order to vote – with the name matching your current legal name

More than 21 million Americans lack ready access to these documents. Half of all Americans don’t have a passport. Requiring millions of American women who changed their last name after marriage to pay for a passport just to prove their identity to vote is a poll tax.
