Pass a Resolution to Stop the Fake Emergency

Trump has declared a Fake Emergency in order to bypass Congress and take unauthorized funds for his racist, unnecessary wall. (Read more here, including public statements from our MOCs.) Our Constitution lays out clear separation of powers, and the President does NOT have the power to appropriate funds. Congress has an obligation to check Executive Branch abuses, and the National Emergencies Act allows Congress to pass a resolution terminating the state of emergency.

Action

On Monday, February 18, President’s Day, we are joining in nationwide protests to stop the president’s power grab. Call Senators Tillis and Burr and Congressmen McHenry or Meadows, demanding that they pass a resolution to end the #FakeEmergency.

(Suggested call script): ” I am horrified that Trump abused his power to sidestep Congress and declare a fake emergency. He’s going around Congress and the will of the American people, and Congress must do everything in its authority to stop this antidemocratic power grab. Will [Senator Tillis/Burr, Congressman McHenry/Meadows] support a resolution to terminate this false emergency?”
[RECORD RESPONSE]
“I’ll be watching his statements and actions on this very closely. Donald Trump is the national security risk  here, and I’m looking to [Senator Tillis/Burr, Congressman McHenry/Meadows] to stop him and protect the Constitutional separation of powers.”
