A couple of days ago Norwegian Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Stoere and Finnish President Alexander Stubb texted President Trump, attempting to de-escalate the threat of new tariffs on countries defending Greenland.
President Trump replied: “Dear Jonas: Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize…
“for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America. Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a “right of ownership” anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also. I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland. Thank you! President DJT.”
Trump couldn’t fathom that the Norwegian government has no control over the Nobel Peace Prize process.
The President forwarded his text to Prime Minister Stoere to other European Ambassadors.
In his growing insistence that the US must own Greenland, despite Denmark’s refusal to sell it and Greenland’s disinterest in being bought, Trump now threatens increased tariffs on the eight nations that have pledged to defend Greenland militarily. These include Denmark, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Finland, Sweden and the UK.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) warns that the global economy is at major risk if the President follows through on his threats.
Meanwhile, China is tired of Trump accusing it of being the playground bully. Xi Jinping has rejected claims that Chinese interest in the Arctic poses a threat. Spokesperson Guo Jiakin said, “We urge the United States to stop using the so-called threat from China as a pretext to pursue its own selfish interests.”
